Important Points to Remember About the Master Gardener Program
The Master Gardener Training Program will teach you a tremendous amount about landscape gardening in the north Florida area. Our classes will meet both in the classroom and in the field. The training prepares you to be a volunteer who will help the Wakulla County Extension office teach others.
Please be prepared to make the following commitments if you wish to participate in the MG program:
- Training (Part One): attend all the weekly training classes each Wednesday (between February 27 - April 23, 2008) at 84 Cedar Avenue, Crawfordville from 9:00am until 3:00pm.
- Training (Part Two): attend all monthly classes and field trips after you complete the basic training.
- Volunteer Service in the Wakulla County Extension Office for 35 hours over 9 months following the initial training, answering phone calls/walk-ins from clients about gardening/landscape questions.
- Volunteer Service in the various gardens at the Wakulla County Extension office 30 hours over the course of the 9 months. You will need to be able do all the typical activities of gardening: spread mulch, pull weeds, plant plants, prune plants, etc.
- Volunteer Community Service activities 15 hours. Examples: giving talks to groups about gardening, doing landscape consultations, working with school teachers on garden projects, working with 4-H youth.
- Attend continuing education workshops/classes as they become available 5 hours.
So, if you’re interested in rolling up your sleeves and having fun in the MG Program, a lot about gardening while helping others, too, please fill out an application and return it to this address. We would love to have you join us.
Note: Previously certified Master Gardeners are required to complete 35 hours of volunteer service to keep their certification current.
